At all levels, Rock & Sun instruction and coaching is geared to target and develop the key elements: technique, balance, movement, and mental approach. To get an idea of some of the things you will learn during the week, please read our blog articles Outdoor Climbing Coaching and A fresh look at fall practice.
Climb 2 grades harder within one week
Whatever your present rock climbing grade, each course level will enable you to observe, practice and acquire a wide range of effective techniques and skills for increased confidence and performance.
Consolidation of learnt skills is deliberately thorough at each level to enable best understanding of how to progress your climbing skills independently.
Most of our clients come away having climbed two grades harder than they have ever climbed on real rock before!
Climbing Coaching at Your Level
The information below gives an indication of what the different coaching levels are about and who they are for. Please contact us if you are not entirely sure which level would suit your climbing experience and aspirations best. Describe us what you have done so far, indoors and on real rock, toprope and lead, over how many years. And let us know what you would especially like to work on in your climbing. Based on that our team will advise you which Outdoor Climbing Coaching course is best for you.
Level 1 - Up to 6b / 5.10c
This level is ideal for three different groups of climbers. First of all, for those who have little outdoor climbing experience and want to learn how to move efficiently on real rock before they develop inefficient movement patterns. Second, it is for climbers who have been on a sport climbing holiday with Rock & Sun. During the holiday you would have received some tips and advice on how to improve your climbing. This time you are coming back for more climbing coaching. Finally, it is for those who may have many years of climbing experience, indoors and outdoors, but find themselves struggling to break through the F6a (5.10a) level. Being able to confidently and comfortably lead climb F6a opens up many outdoor climbing opportunities.
Video analysis and climbing drills are two of the instruments used on this course to improve your climbing and bring it to the next level.
The Costa Blanca has many crags with a wide spread of grades. So your climbing instructor will easily be able to coach someone on a F5 and someone on a F6b at the same time.
Level 2 6b-7b / 5.10d-5.12b
The second level of the Outdoor Climbing Coaching Course is ideal for many types of climbers. First of all, it is for climbers with at least a few years of climbing experience, indoors as well as outdoors. Already able to lead climb F6b, and now wanting to progress to climbing F6c/7b. Also, many of our returning clients come on a level 2 Outdoor Climbing Coaching Course. You have for instance done the Outdoor Climbing Coaching Level 1 or have been with us on one of our Sport Climbing Holidays. This course is also for those climbers who have been climbing for years or decades. You know you are doing some things right, but you would like to know and understand what it is. On this course we will thoroughly analyse and break down your movement pattern to understand what you are already good at, and to see where the points of improvement lie. With this knowledge and by doing specific climbing exercises to work on your weaker points, we will aim to bring your climbing to the next level.
Finally, this Outdoor Climbing Coaching Course is ideal for those that have climbed for instance 6c or 7a in the past, but are prone to climbing injuries. Often climbing injuries are related to inefficient movement patterns. For instance by pulling on the arms more than necessary and thereby putting a strain on fingers, elbows and shoulders. With climbing coaching you will learn to understand how to move efficiently, maximising using your legs to create upward movement.
