Fontainebleau

This Bouldering mecca is set 90km south of Paris in the forest that surrounds the town of Fontainebleau. The bouldering quality is world class and vast. This well known area has impressed all that visit, for its beauty, charm and variety of boulders. It has everything from small boulders to let the children explore in complete safety to all the slabs, aretes, overhangs and mantels that you could wish for of every grade.

What is climbing like in Fontainebleau

The bouldering at Fontainebleau has all styles and suits all abilities. The great thing with Fontainebleau, as it's usually known by is how many areas there are to climb in such a small area. You could go there year after year and never climb the same problem twice.

The focus of this bouldering trip

This bouldering holiday utilises all the different climbing areas on offer and focuses on all aspects of bouldering - from safety through to technique, movement and overall performance.

There will also be plenty of time to get some expert instruction to help with general climbing techniques, increase confidence and any other areas of your climbing which you may want to fine-tune. Whatever your strengths, weaknesses or experience, there will be a lot to gain from this holiday. It is a great place to bring the family too.

Getting to Fontainebleau

Being close to Paris means that if you wanted to extend your trip you can enjoy a city trip to Paris. If you're flying the best airport to fly into is Charles De Gaulle Airport, from here it is an easy train trip to the center of Fontainebleau, where you will be picked up by your climbing instructor.

Accommodation in Fontainebleau

The accommodation here is either a room in one of Fontainebleau's many self-catering gites, a private room in the popular FontaineblHostel, or a fully furnished and heated mobilhome on campsite La Musardiere. The accommodation depends on availability and group composition.

When to go Bouldering in Fontainebleau

The best time of year can vary depending on what you like. In the winter months the weather gives good friction but chances are that it will rain when you're there.

In the summer there is little chance of rain but the friction on the harder problems isn't as good but that's never stopped Rock and Sun having fun. Spring and Autumn is the when the majority of climbers go to Font and at this time of year you can expect crowds so it is a balancing act - just like the locals will tell you about the climbing!!

Your instructors

Your instructors for this Bouldering Trip in Fontainebleau are Amber Thornton and Sam Hunter. Sam and Amber are both very passionate about bouldering and embrace the bouldering and 'Font' lifestyle. They love sharing their enthusiasm for and knowledge of bouldering technique with you to give you an amazing bouldering experience in the forest of Fontainebleau.
