Navigation Courses
Course overview:
Do you want to brush up on your map and compass skills? Do you want to
navigate confidently in the worst weather? Gain the essential top tips from
our mountaineering instructors. The course takes place on Dartmoor: ‘if you
navigate on Dartmoor you can navigate anywhere’.
Course content:
A two-day course covering the essential skills using a map and compass to
navigate in open country, thick weather and at night. We also cover the
application of GPS and altimeter technology.
The course includes half a day of classroom-based instruction followed by a short course consolidating basic skills in easy terrain. In the evening we will practise some night navigation. There is the likelihood that a classic
Dartmoor pub will be a checkpoint! The second day will involve a journey
across the wild north moor.
Previous experience required:
No experience is necessary but this course is
aimed at competent outdoor people. It is ideal for walkers, mountaineers,
